Twice was formed through a television show called Sixteen in 2015. This show was a competition where sixteen trainees from JYP Entertainment competed to become part of a new girl group. The show started on May 5, 2015, and by the end, seven members were chosen: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, and Chaeyoung. However, the group’s founder, J.Y. Park, decided to add two more members, Tzuyu and Momo, making Twice a nine-member group.
The group officially debuted on October 20, 2015, with their first extended play called The Story Begins and the lead single “Like Ooh-Ahh”. This debut marked the beginning of Twice’s successful journey in the K-pop world.
Twice quickly gained popularity not only in Korea but also internationally, thanks to their catchy songs and energetic performances. Their diverse lineup, featuring members from different countries like Japan and Taiwan, helped them connect with fans worldwide. Over time, Twice has become one of the most beloved and successful K-pop groups globally.
