Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, joined Big Hit Entertainment after seeing a flyer for a rap competition called “Hit It” 🎤. He decided to audition because he was already active in the underground hip-hop scene as a producer and rapper, and he wanted to take his music to the next level 🚀. Although he didn’t win the competition, he came in second place and was offered a position as a producer and trainee at Big Hit Entertainment 📈.
Suga initially wanted to be just a producer, but he was convinced by Bang Si-hyuk, the founder of Big Hit Entertainment, to join a group similar to 1TYM, with the promise that he wouldn’t have to dance much and could focus on rapping 🕺. Suga jokes that Bang Si-hyuk “tricked” him into joining the group, which eventually became BTS, one of the most popular K-pop bands in the world 🤣.
During his trainee days, Suga was involved in various activities, including dancing for other artists’ performances and making appearances in music videos 📹. He eventually debuted as a member of BTS in 2013 and has since become known for his powerful rap skills and songwriting abilities 🎸.
