BTS Suga got his stage name because he used to play basketball in school, and his position was shooting guard 🏀. He took the first part of “shooting,” which is “shu,” and the first part of “guard,” which is “gua,” to create the name “Suga” 🎤. This name was suggested by Bang Si-hyuk, the CEO of Big Hit Entertainment, who thought it suited Suga better than his original name, Gloss 💡.
Before joining BTS, Suga used the name Gloss as an underground rapper in his hometown of Daegu 🌆. However, when he joined Big Hit Entertainment, he was advised to change his name because Gloss might not be impactful enough, and Bang Si-hyuk suggested “Suga” instead 📝.
Suga also has another stage name, Agust D, which he uses for his solo projects 🎧. This name is an anagram of “Suga” spelled backwards and includes “DT,” which stands for Daegu Town, his birthplace 📍.
